More Images CB1 Gallery is proud to present Someplace Else, Osvaldo Trujillo’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. His work was previously included in Axis Mundi, a three person exhibition at the gallery in March 2010. His new work showcases the artist’s study and creation of alternative realities. The exhibition will be on display from December 11, 2011 through January 15, 2012, with a reception for the artist on Sunday, December 11, 5 – 7 p.m.
Focusing at the extreme ends of both micro and macroscopic vantage points, OsvaldoTrujillo explores the fusion of nature and technology. The artist explores ideas and theories, both scientific and theological, to observe the intrinsic substance at the foundation of existence. Some pieces toe the line between the living and the non-living. They are singular ideas, wholly dependent on being part of a larger system. The resulting, larger system becomes a labyrinth of irreducible complexity. Someplace Else is an existence crafted in the likeness of our current state; however, rules of logic, physics and time do not apply. This place is where ideas can be examined without the constraints of reality, as we currently understand it. The work is both reflection and mirror. Trujillo’s experiences and interactions within the waking world are reflected in a language of symbols. The symbols come from a subconscious place within and resist a consistent interpretation. Osvaldo Trujillo is a visual artist and professor, based in Los Angeles. His work has been exhibited at POST Gallery, Peggy Phelps Gallery, Art FrankFurt, Germany, and is represented by CB1 Gallery. Trujillo graduated with an MFA from Claremont Graduate University, Los Angeles and currently is teaching at USC and Loyola Marymount University. |
