CB1-G (Guest) is a freestanding pop-up venue at our new location, 1923 S. Santa Fe Ave., exhibiting solo, two person or group exhibitions of both contemporary and historical art disciplines presented by national and international dealers. CB1-G provides the opportunity for an in-depth, repeat visitor experience to see works of art not regularly seen in Los Angeles. From time to time, CB1 Gallery also uses CB1-G as an addition space for our own exhibitions.

DIS-figured - CSUSB MFA in Studio Art: Graduate Exhibition

Three Masters of Fine Art candidates from Cal State San Bernardino will hold a group exhibition, DIS-figured, at the CB1-G Gallery, in Los Angeles from July 9 to Aug. 6 with an opening reception on July 9 from 4-6 p.m.

The exhibition will showcase the culminating works of Sapira Cheuk, Matthew McMilon and Jenny Montenegro from their graduate studies, each dissecting the subject of the body in relation to identity, sex, subjectivity, and spirituality through painting.

About the artists:

Sapira Cheuk’s work incorporates traditional Sumi Ink painting with spare geometric lines to explore the complexity of the subject and corporeality through depictions and abstractions of female sexual experiences. Cheuk has exhibited in more than 50 exhibitions at museums and galleries including the Orange County Contemporary Art Center, Riverside Art Museum, Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, and The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art.

Matthew McMilon is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, activist, and educator. His work explores narrative through painting, photography and experiemental printmaking. McMilon has taught art in a variety of non-profit and institutional settings. His culminating exhibition, No such thing as yesterday, (November 2016) includes his first book along with abstract paintings and photomontages that explore autobiographical narrative through lyricism and abstraction.

Jenny Montenegro’s work engages the intersections of spirituality and art making through the experience of meditation. Her artwork has been shown at Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, Riverside Art Museum, SCA Project Gallery, and other venues in Riverside, Pomona, and Los Angeles. Her current body of work explores the intertwining of mind and body through the materiality of fiber, painting, and performance. Her paintings are a metaphor of her meditations, which allow her to explore the self, femininity, and emotions.
